The SOC (Tunnelling) is a recognized WSH training course for all workers carrying out tunnelling works in buildings and engineering construction worksites. Learners must have completed and passed the Construction Safety Orientation Course for Workers as a
prerequisite to this course.
Participant who are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR) sponsored by Company or Individuals are eligible for the Skills Development Fund (SDF) Funding administrated by the SkillsFuture Singapore Agency (SSG). Individuals can however apply for SkillsFuture Credits to pay for their training (only applicable for Singaporeans aged 25 and above). Theory:
On Completion of this course, the participants be able to recognize the safety hazards working in a tunnel, knowthe preventive measures to be adopted and understand the importance of observing safety signs and safe work procedures.
This course is designed for all workers carrying out work in a tunnel in building and engineering construction worksite. Workers must have completed and passed CSOC to be eligible to attend this course
Singaporean citizen, Permanent Resident or Holder of Valid employment pass/ work permit. Must be over 18 years of age. Must be physically and mentally fit for the training.

Written Assessment – 20 MCQ
Passing mark: 60%
Learner must pass written assessment
Course attendance: 100%
Late comers will not be allowed to sit for the test.
Upon successful completion of the course, a Card endorsed by Global Training Services will be issued to all participants
As MOM require, all construction firms must have at least 10% of their work permit holders (WPHs) to be qualified as “Higher Skilled” R1 workers. Construction personnel registered under the Multi-skilling Scheme are qualified as “Higher Skilled” R1 workers under the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)’s Foreign Worker Levy Scheme.

The Direct R1 Scheme was implemented, on 1 Sep 2015, to provide another alternative pathway for the industry to upgrade their construction workers. It allows those who pass the Skills Evaluation Certificate (Knowledge), SEC(K), test at higher skill level and draw a fixed monthly salary of $1,600 or more, to be considered as R1 (Higher Skilled) workers; under the Ministry of Manpower Tiered-Levy Scheme.
