WSQ Apply Workplace Safety And Health In Metal Work (MSOC)
Overview
WSQ “Apply Workplace Safety and Health in Metal Work” is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers working in metal working. Metal working workers are required to go through the course before they start work. The Workplace Safety and Health (Factories, Safety Training Courses order – clause 2 (9)) stipulates that “Any worker employed in manual labour to carry out work in a factory engaged in the manufacture of basic metals, fabricated metal products, machinery or equipment and electrical machinery and equipment must undergo a safety and health training course approved by the Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health.”
Participants who are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR) sponsored by Company or Individuals are eligible for the Skills Development Fund (SDF) Funding administrated by the SkillsFuture Singapore Agency (SSG). Individuals can however apply for SkillsFuture Credits to pay for their training (only applicable for Singaporeans aged 25 and above). For further informations, log on to myskillsfuture.gov.sg.

The Competency Elements covered are:
- Identify own roles and responsibilities in metalworking
- Follow safe work procedures in metal working
- Respond to fire emergencies
Course Objective
After the course, the trainees should be able identify their own roles and responsibilities in metal working, follow safe work procedures, and respond to fire emergencies.
For Whom
The “Apply Safety and Health in Metal Work” is a mandatory WSH training course for all workers in metal working.
Entry Requirement
Learners must be above 18 years of age and are assumed to have employment status as manual labour to carry out work in a factory engaged in the manufacture of basic metals, fabricated metal products, machinery or equipment and electrical machinery and apparatus. Be medically fit. Be able to listen, read, speak and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills (ES) level 2. Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills (ES) level 2. Have good organisational skills. Be able to follow written and oral work instructions

Valid Work Permit / S Pass / Employment Pass / NRIC copy / Valid Passport copy
Certification
Candidates must pass both the Written Assessment (MCQ) and Practical Performance to be considered to have successfully completed the “Apply Workplace Safety and Health in Construction Sites” Course.
Upon successful completion of the Course and assessed as competent, a “Statement of Attainment” (SOA) from SSG, and a card from Global Training Services, will be issued to all participants.

Construction Registration of Tradesmen, or CoreTrade, is a registration scheme administered by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for skilled and experienced construction personnel in the various key construction trades.
As MOM require, all construction firms must have at least 10% of their work permit holders (WPHs) to be qualified as “Higher Skilled” R1 workers. Construction personnel registered under the Multi-skilling Scheme are qualified as “Higher Skilled” R1 workers under the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)’s Foreign Worker Levy Scheme.

2) Have a minimum of four (4) years of construction experience in Singapore

2) Have a minimum of six (6) years of construction experience in Singapore;
3) Completed 120 hours of training in approved safety-related courses.

1) One (1) Skills Evaluation Certificate [ SEC/SEC(K) ]
2) Have a minimum of six (6) years of construction experience in Singapore.
3) Obtained WSQ Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health.

No, it is only available for construction worker and over 4 years constryction experience in Singapore
The Direct R1 Scheme was implemented, on 1 Sep 2015, to provide another alternative pathway for the industry to upgrade their construction workers. It allows those who pass the Skills Evaluation Certificate (Knowledge), SEC(K), test at higher skill level and draw a fixed monthly salary of $1,600 or more, to be considered as R1 (Higher Skilled) workers; under the Ministry of Manpower Tiered-Levy Scheme.
